An address module (AB) is assigned to an alarm caller (M1,M2), e.g. an alarm releasing device, to break the voltage on the line. The central station, after a given time, then briefly disconnects the line voltage from the line (ML) and applies interrogate pulses to it. From the interrogate pulse sequence the address module determines the address of the caller assigned to it. The alarm-releasing caller causes an alarm in the form of a sudden jump in line current when a set caller address is the same as the determined caller address.
