<p>PURPOSE:To prevent the deterioration of a liq. crystal by setting a peripheral electrode in a peripheral region adjacent to image element electrodes. CONSTITUTION:A peripheral electrode 3 is set around image element electrodes 2. In regions in which scanning lines Y and signal lines X intersect the electrode 3, the electrode 3 is positioned above layers having the formed lines X, Y with an insulating film in-between. Since the electrode 3 has the same electric potential applied as a counter electrode 113, and electric field between the lines X, Y and the electrode 113 is intercepted and DC voltage is not impressed on a liq. crystal 111. The deterioration of the liq. crystal is prevented and the service life is prolonged.</p> |
