PURPOSE:To allow a part of excess fuel to flow directly into a fuel pump so to enable the recovery of pressure energy by providing an inflow port between the suction port and discharge port of a fuel pump, and also providing a means for communicating this inflow port with a return passage. CONSTITUTION:A fuel pump 70, provided in a sub-tank 64 additionally provided on the bottom face 62 of a fuel tank 60, sucks fuel having passed a filter 68 from a suction port 74 by the rotation of an impeller 82 driven by a motor, applies pressure to the sucked fuel along a pump passage 81, and discharges it from a discharge opening 76 to feed it to an injector through a feed passage 90. Excess fuel is returned to the fuel tank 60 side through a return passage 94. The return passage 94 is provided, at its intermediate part, with a relief valve for communicating fuel with the sub-tank 64 by an end part 96 and also with a return inflow port 78 through a by-pass passage 102 and a check valve 104. Return fuel can be thereby fed into the pump passage 81 so as to reduce pressure loss and improve efficiency.
