The compound is used to obtain a polymer, which is non-toxic, hard, weatherproof and abrasion-resistant and can be used in the dental engineering as obturating material and as a co-monomer additive for the hydroxymethyl methacrylate in the manufacture of contact lenses. The compound has the following general formula:<IMAGE>It is obtained by reacting a dichloroanhydride of methylenedisalicylic acid with hydroxymethyl methacrylate in a medium of an organic solvent in the presence of a basic substance. Benzene, toluene or xylene can be used as organic solvents.
