A circuit breaker (10) includes an arrangement of an input terminal (14) and at least two output terminals (16) and (18). Means (20) forming a changeover switch establish a route for current to pass between the input terminal arrangement (14) and each of the output terminals (16) and (18). Control means (26) control the current passing through the output terminals (16) and (18) and drive the means (20) forming a changeover switch in such a way that they cut off the route for current passing between the input terminal arrangement and the first output terminal if the current passing through the first output terminal exceeds the predetermined value, or between the input terminal arrangement and the second output terminal if the current, at a higher value, passes through the second output terminal for a period of time longer than a predetermined period of time. <IMAGE>
