A disk operating apparatus includes a recording/reproducing device and a disk cleaning device both mounted on an upright stocker between a pair of opposed side plates thereof. The cleaning device is able to automatically clean a great number of disks in a simple and most efficient manner in a short time. To this end, a disk cartridge 110 is loaded into a housing 10 by means of a loading mechanism 12 and placed in position on a turntable 18 with a portion of the disk 112 in the cartridge being exposed therefrom. The turntable 18 is rotated by a drive mechanism 28 while a cleaning tape 15, which is wound at one end thereof around a feeding reel 22 and at the other end thereof around a winding reel 11, is resiliently urged at a portion thereof between the feeding and winding reels toward a surface of the disk under the action of a presser roller 13 so as to clean the disk surface. In addition, a feeding mechanism 89 is operated to rotate the winding reel 11 to wind up a soiled or dirty portion of the cleaning tape 15 therearound, thus making a clean surface of the cleaning tape 15 in contact with the disk surface at all times. <IMAGE>
