PURPOSE:To ensure the satisfactory magnetic recording characteristics from the beginning of application and at the same time to reduce the production cost, by giving an R to the tape touching surface in the track width direction so that the R is minimized at the front gap part and then increased gradually as it gets further from the gap part. CONSTITUTION:A head chip 10 contains a groove 15 which prescribes the track width T of a front gap 14 on the surface opposite to core halves 11 and 12 respectively. Then glass 16 is filled into the groove 15. An R is given to the tape touching surface S along the track extending direction 17, and at the same time an (r) is given to a region D where the glass 16 is filled in the track width direction 18. For the (r), the mean curvature radius of the tape touching surface is minimum at the gap 14 and increased gradually as it gets off further from the gap 14 toward the direction 17. The gap part 14 touches concentrically a magnetic tape compared with the areas distant away from the part 14. This can avoid the spacing. |
