PURPOSE:To easily form a sliding surface having good fitness and excellent wear resistance by using low-temp. and high-temp. plating solns., to form high-hardness and low-hardness layers on the surface of a member and honing the layers. CONSTITUTION:A cylinder 1 with its inner sliding surface to be plated is fixed to the main body 2. The first plating soln. 3 having a relatively low temp. in the first plating soln. tank 4 is supplied into the inner diameter of the cylinder 1 to electrodeposit a first chromium plating layer 20 on the surface 19 of the base material 18 of the cylinder 1 in specified thickness. The second plating soln. 5 having a high temp. in the second plating soln. tank 6 is then supplied into the inner diameter of the cylinder 1 to electrodeposit a second chromium plating layer 22 on the surface 21 of the first chromium plating layer 20 in specified thickness. The first layer 20 is formed on the hard chromium layer and the second layer 22 on the relatively soft chromium layer. The second layer 22 is then honed to remove the part 23, and only a thin soft chromium plating layer 24 is left. The soft chromium layer 24 is used as the layer to be worn at the initial stage of operation having good fitness, and the hard chromium layer 20 is used as the wear-resistant layer of the cylinder during its operation. |
