A compact, reliable, clearance-free, positive connection for the components to be connected to the shaft (4) of a gear unit is to be provided. To this end, the end of the externally projecting shaft (4) is constructed in the following manner: (a) the outside diameter of the shaft (4) is tapered towards the end in a hollow cylindrical end region; (b) a clamping ring (5) with an oppositely conical internal diameter can be placed on the tapering end section of the shaft (4) and clamped to the shaft in such a way that the internal diameter of the end section of the shaft (4) can be slightly decreased; (c) in order to obtain a predetermined reduction in the internal diameter of the shaft (4), the clamping ring (5) can be axially tightened. The clamping ring may optionally act as a securing flange on the shaft (4) for a connecting unit (9).
