USE:A black colorant useful for liquid crystal composition materials, recording materials for optical disks, etc. The compound of formula I has a small mol.wt., is readily soluble in solvents and can simply be synthesized at low costs. PREPARATION:An isatin derivative of formula III is made to react with a malononitrile of formula IV in an equimolar ratio in a solvent such as alcohol chlorobenzene and then the reaction product is allowed to react with a slightly excessive amount of phosphorus pentachloride, etc., in a solvent such as chlorobenzene to prepare a chloride of formula V, which is made to react with an aniline derivative of formula VI to provide the compound of formula I. |
