COMPOSITIONS FOR OIL AND HAZARDOUS WASTE SPILL CLEANUP

Oil and hazardous waste absorbing compositions are provided which comprise chrome tan leather shavings or particles which are by-products of the leather tanning industry. Such shavings or particles are useful alone or in combination with oil and hazardous waste degradative chemicals and microorganisms. The shavings or particles may be chemically synthesized or produced from animal skins. Various embodiments include other tanned leather particulates such as leather shavings from zirconium, formaldehyde, alum, or dialdehyde leather tanning operations, for example, either alone or in combination with the chrome tan leather of this invention.
