PURPOSE: To determine the concentration and the kind of components of the atmosphere by applying a first negative voltage between first and second electrodes to cause an electrochemical oxygen supply thereby feeding a first current through a first electrolytic wall and measuring the magnitude of the first current. CONSTITUTION: A first negative voltage of such magnitude as a first current comes within a first current limit flat region is applied between first and second electrodes 111, 112 to cause an electrochemical oxygen supply so that the first current flows through a first electrolytic wall 113 and then the magnitude of the first current is measured. Subsequently, an open cell electromotive force between third and fourth electrodes 211, 212 is measured, thus preparing a table means for correlating pairs of numbers representative of various combinations of the first current and the open cell electromotive force with the corresponding kind and concentration in one or more component. A measured magnitude of the first current and the open cell electromotive force is combined with the pairs of numbers in the table means thus determining the corresponding kind and concentration in one or more component. |
