A drilling fluid-based composition for cementing a well penetrating subterranean formations comprises a major proportion of drilling fluid a lesser proportion of dry cementitious material; a minor amount of a dispersant for inhibiting flocculation and gel formation; and a compatible accelerator selected from acetic acid; acetic acid esters wherein the ester group has up to 4 carbon atoms; acetamide; monoethanolamine and diethanolamine.
