PURPOSE:To obtain a high strength carbon-carbon composite material not causing breaking due to delamination by impregnating a polymer of a polycryclic arom. compd. into a bundle of carbon fibers and carbonizing the polymer under pressure or carrying out further carbonization under ordinary pressure. CONSTITUTION:A polycyclic arom. compd. such as naphthalene, anthracene or other condensed polycyclic arom. hydrocarbon is polymerized in the presence of a binder such as methylene chloride or chloroform to obtain a polymer as a precursor of a carbonaceous matrix. This polymer is impregnated into a bundle of carbon fibers and carbonized under pressure or under pressing or further carbonized under ordinary pressure as required. |
