Ruminants are fed with a fat premix comprising fat intimately admixed with particles of an inert mineral having a porous structure, preferably exfoliated vermiculite. The fat is preferably liquid at animal body temperature and may be polyunsaturated fat. The fat is physically protected in the rumen but is capable of being subsequently digested. Milk with an increased content of polyunsaturated fat can thus be produced. |
