<p>A receiver of a system for transmitting data symbols at a given Baud rate comprises a symbol detector having the received symbols C(k) as output signals, an arithmetic circuit for determining an error signal e(k) which is a measure for a phase difference between a Baud rate clock signal associated to received symbols and a clock signal generated by the clock oscillator (10), and a reference circuit which generates a reference signal Vr(k) which is proportional to the amplitude of the received data symbols. The receiver further includes means (11) for forming from the signals C(k), e(k) and Vr(k) the signals DELTA F and DELTA phi which adjust the frequency and phase of the clock oscillator (10) in order to reduce this clock phase difference. In order to avoid phase and frequency oscillations due to the frequency control, the frequency of the clock oscillator is maintained at the same level if the absolute value of the clock phase difference is decreasing, or the frequency of the clock oscillator is changed so that the decrease of the absolute value of the clock phase difference is slowed down. <IMAGE></p> |
