A lipoxygenase inhibitor composition comprising as active ingredient a lipoxygenase inhibiting effective amount of a substituted styrene derivative having formula
<Chemistry id="chema01" num="0001"><Image id="ia01" he="32" wi="111" file="IMGA0001.TIF" imgContent="chem" imgFormat="TIFF" inline="no" /></Chemistry>wherein X represents a hydroxyl group or a lower alkoxy group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, q is an integer of 2 or 3; and R<Sub>2</Sub> and R<Sub>3</Sub> each represents a hydrogen atom, a lower alkoxy group or a hydroxyl group and Z represents a radical of the formula, -O-(CH<Sub>2</Sub>)<Sub>n</Sub>-CH=CH-, -NH-(CH<Sub>2</Sub>)<Sub>n</Sub>-, wherein n is an integer of 1 to 4, and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
