Thermal cutter esp. for preventing deformation of thin metal sheet - has sheet supported on struts away from solid surface with gaps for passage of gases and particles

Thermal cutting unit for sheet metal (1) has the novelty of a sheet support substructure with supporting struts (5) on an essentially solid surface (4) having passageways (31) for gases and any particles formed during the cutting process. The whole surface (4) has an underlying suction hood (21) to remove the gases and particles. The distance (a) between sheet and surface allows a thermal barrier to be created which prevents warping of the sheet. Furthermore the distance (a) is chosen to avoid damage to the surface (4) by the cutting beam and is pref. 30-60 mm. For oxygen-flame cutting the distance (a) is approximately equal to the thickness of the sheet being cut. USE/ADVANTAGE - Used for e.g. oxygen-, plasma- or laser beam-based cutting processes, the system enables thin sheets to be cut without deforming them.
