In an image reading apparatus, image data read from an image document by an imaging reading device (2) are stored in an image memory (8), and an output signal from a character generator (30a) for generating a character in the form of an indicator is superimposed on the image data to provide a display signal. Any desired portion of the image data displayed on a display device (14) is indicated by the character in the form of the indicator, that is a so-called pointer. The display position of the character may be moved in synchronism with shifting of the data reading region from the image memory (8), or so-called scrolling, to prevent the character display position from deviating with respect to the contents of the displayed image. |
