Vehicle drive system characterised by the replacement of a hydrodynamic automatic transmission, hitherto present between the engine (1) and the axle drive train (11), by a hydrostatic-mechanical multi-path transmission (2) which has an at least four-shaft planetary differential (4) with at least two rows of planet gears (15, 16), two sun gears (12, 13), a web (14) and an internal gear (18), two main shafts (9, 10), forming the input and output and each connected to different shafts of the planetary differential (4), and at least two hydraulic machines (H1, H2) which act alternately as a motor or a pump and can each be connected to a shaft of the planetary differential (4) in different operating ranges by appropriate shifting of a plurality of clutches (K1, K2, K3, K4, K5), the multi-path transmission (2) making possible both infinitely variable hydromechanical power transmission up to an extreme overdrive range where n2/n1 = 0 to about 4 between the two main shafts (9, 10) and also a four-speed power-shift mode, effected by means of a first hydromechanical starting range and a last hydromechanical extreme overdrive range and intermediate mechanical gear-shift operation with shifts graduated in such a way that it is possible, with brief engine speed dips, to cover at least the majority of a vehicle acceleration procedure in a purely mechanical way. <IMAGE> |
