The total knee prosthesis of the sliding type, comprising a metal element (1) fixed to the lower end of the femur, a metal element (3) fixed to the upper end of the tibia, and an intermediate element (2) made of plastic material, the surfaces (2a - 2b) of which in contact with the tibial and femoral elements are formed in a complementary manner, is distinguished by the fact that the intermediate element (2) and the tibial element (3) are arranged with means of cooperation capable of ensuring a controlled and limited rotational clearance of the femoral element/intermediate element assembly in the flexion position of the leg and in the extension position of the leg. <IMAGE>
