PURPOSE:To obtain the refractory material for continuous casting on which Al2O3, etc., as a clogging source are hardly deposited and without its erosion resistance being deteriorated by forming the material from a composition having specified contents of ZrO2, C, B4C or B2O3 and Ca. CONSTITUTION:The refractory material for continuous casting contains, by weight, 50-95% ZrO2, 0.1-50% C, 0.1-20% B4C or 0.1-50% B2O3 and 0.2-10% CaO. Partially stabilized zirconia having 10-5000mum grain size is used as ZrO2 for a casting nozzle having such a composition. Synthetic boron carbide having <=44mum grain size is used as the B4C, synthetic CaO.ZrO2 having <=80mum grain size as CaO and natural graphite having <=250mum grain size as the C. The specified amts. of the materials are mixed and kneaded with a phenolic resin, etc., and the kneaded product is formed by a cold hydrostatic press, etc., and then calcined in a nonoxidizing atmosphere to obtain the desired refractory material for continuous casting, e.g. a casting nozzle. |
