<p>An epicyclic gear train assembly provides compact step-up gearing for the shaft (1) of a windmill. In the basic form there are two epicyclics (5, 6) in tandem coaxially of the shaft (1), with the annular gearing (9, 14) fixed to the mounting (2). The input is to the planet carrier (7) of the first epicyclic (5), and an intermediate member (11) provides the sun (10) for that and the planet carrier (12) for the second epicyclic (6). The output is taken from the sun (15) of that epicyclic (6) through further step-up gearing (17, 18) to a parallel shaft (19). This assembly is between bearings (3, 4) for the shaft (1), which may be tubular to accommodate variable blade pitch control mechanism (20).</p> |
