摘要 RD - 20, 392 FILAMENT REINFORCED CONICAL ARTICLE AND METHOD OF FORMING A method for forming a filament reinforcement on an uneven surface is taught. The method involves spray depositing a layer of matrix metal on a mandrel of uneven configuration and then forming a spiral groove in the surface of the deposited matrix metal. A reinforcing filament is then inserted into the groove on the machined surface and is held in place by conventional means. The mandrel bearing the machined matrix metal layer and reinforcing filament layer are introduced into an r.f. plasma deposition chamber and an additional layer of matrix metal is deposited on the first layer and on the spiral wound filament on the surface thereof to embed the filament into the deposited matrix metal. Following the completion of several steps of deposition of matrix metal and machining the groove in the surface and` inserting a spiral wound filament into the groove, the article so formed is consolidated by conventional means.
