The invention relates to a method and to a device for making a partial vacuum prevail in a zone (5) of permeable ground which is isolated from the external atmosphere by an isolation membrane (7) which covers over the said zone. In suction means (25) designed to receive a driving fluid and air to be sucked, the driving fluid is made to flow at a high speed in order to create, in these suction means, a partial vacuum capable of entraining a suction of air into it, this sucked-in air having previously been isolated, in a separation chamber (27), from a mixture of air and water coming from, or from the environs of, the said zone (5) of permeable ground. The invention applies in particular to the consolidation of soft ground with a low permeability and which are impregnated with water. <IMAGE>
