An integral type foam sheet has a skin on at least one side produced by fusion, and this skin is covered by a silicone layer of thickness pref. equalling that of the skin itself. A sound-absorbing cover for a vehicle engine is of suitable shape and is screwed down in position; it can have a liner of a plastic moulding to give it stability. The side of the cover nearer to the noise source has a thin skin (7) formed by closing off its cellular structure e.g. by heating; a moulded foam can have its surface pores closed by the thermoforming. The top silicone coating is anchored in position by the tiny pores left.
