PURPOSE:To reduce the load of a host computer by transmitting the program of the latest version No. via a host computer and storing this program as a new operating program if the version No received from the host computer at start up is not coincident with the version No. of the program under operation. CONSTITUTION:An instruction is transmitted when a terminal emulator 12 is started, and a version No. is transmitted after a host computer 6 received the instruction. The emulator 12 receives the version No. and compares it with the version No. of a program under operation. If no coincidence is obtained between both version Nos, the program of the latest version No. is transmitted from the computer 6 and stored as a new operating program. Thus it is not required to transmit the program of the latest version No. many times, and therefore the load of the computer 6 is reduced. As a result, the version-up is attained for the program of the emulator 12 without increasing the load of the computer 6.
