This invention relates to an alcohol compound useful as an intermediate for manufacturing carboxylic acid esters represented by the formula (I) (I) wherein R1 represents a hydrogen atom R2 represents a group of the formula in which X and Y are the same or different and represent a methyl group, a halogen atom or a halogenated lower alkyl group, R3 represents a hydrogen atom and R4 represents a hydrogen atom, a lower alkyl group, a lower alkynyl group or a lower alkynyl group which compounds are useful as insecticides. The intermediates have the formula wherein R3 represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group and R4 represents a hydrogen atom, a lower alkyl group, lower alkenyl group or a lower alkynyl group.
