PURPOSE:To prevent the undesirable temperature rise of the exhaust gas by allowing an intake charge quantity control means to control the intake charge quantity for a cylinder so that the output torque of an engine is reduced, when the speed change operation in an automatic transmission is detected. CONSTITUTION:When the speed change operation by an automatic transmission is detected, the intake charge quantity of the cylinder in an engine is varied, and the output torque of the engine is reduced. Since the engine output torque is reduced when the speed change operation is detected, the speed change shock due to the speed change operation is effectively reduced, and since the reduction of the engine output torque is carried out by controlling the intake charge quantity in the cylinder, not by carrying out control for changing the ignition timing in the engine to the delayed side, the control for reducing the engine output torque can be carried out without incurring the undesirable temperature rise of the exhaust gas supplied from the engine. |
