A fluorescent composed of (Al1-x-yLnxTby)nBO3 [Ln = Sc, Lu, La and/ or Y; 0 < x <= 0.4; 0 < y <= 0.1; 0.5 <= n <= 2.0 is produced by (a) adding Sc2O3, LU2O3, La2O3 and/or Y2O3 to Al2O3 or H3BO3, (b) adding Tb4O7 or TbCl3, and Li2CO3 or Na2CO3 to the mixt., (c) firing the mixt. under the atmosphere at 450-800 deg.C for 0.5-6 hr, (d) refiring it at 1200-1600 deg.C for 1-6 hr, and (e) cleaning the obtd. fluorescent with 10 % hydrochloric acid solution. The fluorescent for a CRT has an excellent luminance and chromaticity.
