A flap valve is described which is attached to the endplate of a cylinder block on a hermetically sealed compressor. The valve is located in the inlet and/or outlet for the gases and is operated by pressure difference between the endplate outer side and the compression chamber. The flexible flap (10) is mfd. in a resin, e.g., PEEK, PES, PI, LCP and has straight reinforcing fibres (20,21,22) e.g., carbon, aramid, glass, at a distance from each other and aligned at least in the direction of the long axis of the flap (10). USE/ADVANTAGE - The flap valve is used in the inlet and/or outlet line of a hermetically sealed compressor, substantially reduces efficiency losses at the valve and is easy and cheap to produce.
