The engine racing prevention device uses the fuel cut-out valve (8) inserteo in the fuel injection line (7), which normally interrupts the fuel feed to the engine when the ignition is switched off, to bring the engine to a standstill. A lambda probe (12) is inserted in the exhaust gas line (4) for supplying a signal representing the 02 content of the exhaust gases to an electronic comparator (14) which compares it with a reference value to activate a switch (15) in the electrical control line (9) for the e.m. fuel cut-out valve (8). Pref. the electronic comparator (14) uses a curve providing a lambda value for each engine revolution rate which is addressed via the revolution signal obtained from the engine.
