摘要 <p>PURPOSE:To reduce height and width of an engine by arranging collecting air intake passages at the dead space caused by collecting independent air intake passages, and unifying properties in respective cylinder trains. CONSTITUTION:In an engine 1 provided with right and left banks BL, BR, air intake ports 6 which are communicated with respective cylinders C1 - C12 through air intake valves 5 are made to open at the side surface between banks BL, BR of respective cylinder heads 3L, 3R, and the downstream ends of independent air intake passages 7 are respectively connected with the air intake ports. With this constitution, the respective independent intake passages 7 are extended upward and curved to be extended above the cylinder heads 3L, 3R of the corresponding banks BL, BR, and the upstream ends are connected to the downstream ends of collecting air intake passages 9 of respective cylinder groups GF, GR respectively. Besides, the collecting air intake passages 9 of the respective cylinder trains GF, GR are extended horizontally in a direction which is apart from between the banks BL, BR side above the cylinder heads 3L, 3R and are curved to the central side of a cylinder train in the respective banks BL, BR, and are made to take a U-turn to the independent air intake passages 7 side.</p>
