The connector contains individual metallic contact elements (26) which consist of a contacting part (30), a second contacting part (34) and a shank (32). Housing (10) has channels (12) which hold at least one of the elements (26) and a method to insulate the elements from the metallic part of the housing. The insulating consists pref. of a layer which coats the shanks (32) of the elements (26). The coating is pref. Ba-titanate, Al-oxide or a mixture of teflon and polyimide. USE/ADVANTAGE - The connectors have metal screen around the connector elements which prevents cross-coupling of electrical signals between the elements. Insulation of the elements from this screen, which can be solid metal or a obtd. metallisation film on a plastic housing, is by coating the elements with an insulating film in discrete areas, i.e. those areas which do not have to be available for electrical interconnection. This requires in inexpensive modification of the mfr. process and allows most of the existing tooling to be used. The compsn. of the coating can be adapted to requirements for high or low dielectric constant.
