Device for spreading a bituminous emulsion over the surface (1) of a road in order to constitute a bonding layer (3) prior to the deposition of a layer (2) of hot bituminous road surfacing material by a finishing machine (5), this device comprising a chassis (15) and a means of movement (16) which is independent of the finishing machine (5), characterised by the fact that it comprises a device for receiving the hot road surfacing material (18) mounted on the chassis (15) at the front, a device for transferring the road surfacing material (19, 21) positioned behind the receiving device (18), over the length of the chassis (15), having a discharge end (22) located at the rear of the chassis (15), a tank for containing bituminous emulsion (25) with a capacity at least equal to two cubic metres and a boom (26) for spreading the emulsion over the road, being supplied by the tank (25) and positioned transversely at the rear of the chassis (15).
