A method of measuring a cooling curve of cast iron by thermal analysis, wherein powders of a metal such as tellurium, bismuth, boron, zinc, or aluminum, or a pressed powder or sintered molding of a mixture of these elements are fixed on the inner surface for measuring the cooling curve, and molten iron to be cast is poured into the cup so that definite proeutectic and eutectic crystallization temperatures of iron, cementite, and silicon on the basis of metastable solidification may be indicated on the cooling curve of cast iron for judging the carbon equivalent, carbon content, and silicon content of cast iron as well as estimating physical and mecanical properties of the cast iron; and a cup for measuring the cooling curve of cast iron by thermal analysis characterized by fixing a pressed powder or sintered molding of tellurium, bismuth, boron, zinc, aluminum, etc. on the bottom of the cup so as to surround a thermocouple. <IMAGE> <IMAGE> |
