摘要 PURPOSE: To reduce the flying height of a magnetic conversion head, to increase a recording density and to improve the wear characteristics of the head and disk by providing the medium with a size and shape by which the projecting parts and recessed parts forming surface roughness are controlled. CONSTITUTION: A mirror surface finished base layer surface 38 having normal roughness is formed and a magnetizable film is deposited as a layer having a uniform thickness on this base layer surface. Energy is selectively concentrated to the many positions of the selected parts 32 of the base layer surface 38 and the recording surface 40, by which the shapes of the selected area parts 32 are controllably changed and the adjacent positions are isolated from each other by the distance smaller than the length and width of the magnetic conversion head. The roughness of the selected surfaces is thus made two-fold the normal roughness. As a result, the flying height is substantially reduced in the projecting parts and recessed parts forming the surface roughness. The recording density and the wear characteristics of the conversion head and the disk are improved.
