The invention relates to a device for separating oil from water, comprising a vessel 1 having an inlet and an outlet 21, 17 as well as intermediate walls 10 extending into the water above and below, whereby a crosswise, meander-shaped flow arises in the vessel 1, downwards from above, while overflow apertures 14, 15 are provided above in the vessel for exit of the separated oil, and the device is designed such that the separation is more complete and faster than with known devices and/or the required cleaning is achieved with only one processing. According to the invention, the upper parts 10a of the intermediate walls 10 extending upwards from below are situated at the same level as the lower edges 14a, 15a of the overflow apertures 14, 15, such that each time, two consecutive chambers 3, 4; 5, 6; 7, 8 are formed, spanning the whole of the liquid surface, the chambers being united in pairs with their upper parts 9 but otherwise separated by the intermediate walls 10, whereby every second chamber 4; 6 is united by its lower part 11 with the nearest chamber 5, 7 in the following pair. <IMAGE>
