T.) Feb. 29,1932, No. 6090. Addition to 322,748, [Class 132 (ii), Games]. [Class 132 (ii).] The invention described in the parent Specification is modified for adaptation to bags of varied type. In the construction shown in Fig. 2 the spiking rod 1 for insertion in the ground can be adjusted for different length bags, there being a clearance of 1¢ inches or more between the end of the rod and the bottom of the longest bag, the rod being retained in the adjusted position by the flexible strap 5 passing through the hand-grip 4 and slots in the mouth of the bag to form a separator for the clubs. In the case of longitudinally stiffened bags the hand-grip 4 is not connected to the mouth of the bag but the spiking rod is guided through a loop formed in a flexible mouth-of-the-bag divider or through a ring or clip fitted on a rigid or flexible mouthof-the-bag divider originally provided with the bag or afterwards fitted thereto. Examples are shown in Figs. 4 and 6. In the case of longitudinally stiffened bags screwed-on extension pieces 14, 33 can be used as shown in Figs. 6 and 15 respectively, or a longer rod can be used. The spiked rod can be made in one piece with the hand-grip and can be padded. The end 17 of the sheath 2 is spun over, thus dispensing with the stop screwed into the top of the sheath to limit the movement of the collar fixed to the spiking rod as in the parent case. The collar 18 in the present case is preferably sweated on the rod. In order to avoid any tendency of the collar 18 hammering out the spun end 17 of the sheath on the retraction of the rod, a spring 19 or indiarubber .buffer is provided between the collar 18 and the spun end 17 of the sheath. For securing the sheath 2 to the bottom of the bag a pair of centrally apertured domed spring discs or washers 20, 21 and a centrally bored externally threaded flanged ferrule 24 are provided, the ferrule 24 screwing into a thread on the sheath 2 or a thread on a liner 23 sweated into the sheath 2. The ferrule 24 is preferably diametrically grooved on the face of its flange at 25 to receive the bent-over end 30 of a metal tool 29a, Fig. 13, for tightening purposes. The inner end 24a of the liner 23 can serve as an abutment for the lower end of the spring 3, the lowest coil of which is expanded and flattened to bear against the liner. The flange end of the ferrule 24 may be internally threaded to receive a screw closure plug 26 to prevent the spiked rod being unintentionally protruded. The attachment of the components at the bottom of the bag is facilitated by the provision of a small aligning rod or stick over which the components are passed. In order to make the various holes in the mouth and bottom of the bag suitable punches, or a bit applicable to a common hand brace, are provided. It is preferable to punch any holes in reinforced parts of the bag material.</p> |
