Machine for fitting closures to bottles - has two-speed drive in order to fit two types of closures

The machine is designed to fit closures to beverage bottles. It can fit an aluminium cap which requires 1.7 turns to bring it to the tight position or it can fit plastics caps which required to be rotated through 2.5 to 3.0 turns. The machine has a table (2) which receives the closures and rotates about the vertical axis (1). As the table (2) rotates a spindle (3) with a head (10) which holds one of the closures is moved vertically by means of a helical cam (9). The spindle (3) can be driven from a motor either through a just train of gears (8,6,4) or through a second train (7,5,4) so that the spindle is rotated through a different number of turns. The required gear train is selected by selected by raising or lowering either of the gears (5) or (6) to bring them in or out of engagements.
