The box-section plastics component forms an expansion joint in floors and walls. It has recessed side walls (41) with external clamping members (411). The latter are of hard plastics and are joined to each other by soft, elastic plastics (42,43). The joining plastics pref. forms bridges and the side walls can be joined at the top and/or bottom by other joining bridges (46) of transparent, soft plastics, with coloured strips (47) underneath.
