<p>The present invention relates to a device for placing one elongate carrier (22) of substantially round section into each of a number of grooves (12) arranged in a base plate (9), comprising: a holder (20) arranged above the base plate for carriers extending substantially parallel to the groove; a slide plate (23) which is arranged between the holder and the base plate and which is provided with at least one through-slot (35) extending parallel to grooves arranged in the base plate and which is movable in the direction extending transversely thereof. Such a device is used for kebab sticks. These kebab sticks, when located in the grooves, can be pushed into the pieces of meat. To reduce the number of components and to accelerate the action thereof the device according to the present invention is therefore characterized in that the thickness of the slide plate (23) roughly corresponds with the thickness of the carrier; and the at least one slot has a cross section at least partially converging from the top downwards. Due to the dimensioning of the slide plate and the form of the slots arranged therein the carriers are as it were guided towards the grooves.
