Vehicle passenger safety device - uses gas bag inflated via gas generator under control of impact sensor, forming modular unit

The safety device uses a gas generator (7) activated in response to an accident for inflation of a gas bag (6). The gas generator and the gas bag are formed as a single unit attached to a common carrier, which acts as a housing for the gas generator, the gas bag and a filter. The carrier is designed to be fitted to a part of the vehicle structure, or a given component, e.g. the steering wheel. Pref. the carrier incorporates impact sensors and an autonomous current supply. ADVANTAGE - Does not require additional attachment parts. Reduced weight and space.
