PURPOSE:To prevent the physical properties of the surfaces of cathode electrodes from being changed with age by a method wherein at least the outer surfaces of the cathode electrodes are constituted of a noble metal. CONSTITUTION:A gas laser oscillator has laser discharge pipes 3 and 5 connected directly to each other by an Al block 1. A plurality of pieces of anode electrodes 21 and 23 are respectively mounted to anode electrode holders 11 and 15. Cathode electrodes 25 and 27 are arranged on the block 1. The electrodes 25 and 27 are respectively constituted of such a noble metal as Au, Ru, Rh, Pd, Os, Ir and Pt. The whole electrodes 25 and 27 may be constituted of the noble metal, but the outer surfaces only of the electrodes 25 and 27 may be constituted of the noble metal by plating or the like. Thereby, an oxide film is never formed on the surfaces of the cathode electrodes and as the generation of heat due to an oxide on the surfaces of the cathode electrodes in not caused, stable discharge is obtained in a comparatively high current. |
