The invention relates to a method for the preparation, in a substantially non-racemic form of furo 3,4-c! pyridine derivatives of the formula and of pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, wherein R3, R'3, R4 and R6 represents various substituants, the said method comprising resolving a racemic mixture of one of the compounds of the formulae wherein R3, R'3, R4, R6 are as above defined and R7 stands for an acyl group up to C18, by subjecting the selected compound to the action of an esterase capable of hydrolysing either the (+) or the (-) enantiomeric form of the selected compound, then separating the unhydrolysed and hydrolysed compounds.
