PURPOSE:To obtain a high-function rotary optical switch which is small-sized, low-loss, and low-cost and is superior in reliability for a long period of time by mounting a circular substrate of a full wafer, on which waveguide type optical circuits are collectively formed and mounted, on a rotation driving part of high controllability as it is. CONSTITUTION:Waveguide type optical circuits 13 to 16 to be connected to input/output fibers 18 to 21 in the periphery of a perfectly circular substrate 12 by switching are formed on this substrate 12, and a driving system is provided which rotates this circular substrate 12 at a desired angle of rotation and stops it. Consequently, the plane circular substrate 12 on which waveguide type optical function devices are formed and mounted is switched to input/output devices 18 to 21 by a short stroke. Thus, the multifunction rotary optical switch is obtained which is small-sized and low-loss and is superior in reliability for a long period of time. |
