PURPOSE:To control the usage of a device for each user and for each intended use on the basis of a stored device operation information by storing the device operation information indicating the usage of articles of consumption such as paper, etc., to be consumed in printing for each user and for each intended use on the basis of an identification code. CONSTITUTION:When CPU11 receives data from a host computer through an interface 14, it recognizes an identification code contained in a data sequence. The identification code is a code proper to each plurality of users having this printer for common use and is entered beforehand in the region 15a of EEPROM 15. When the CPU11 recognizes the identification code and receives a device use start command following said code, it regards data received therefrom as printing data to be edited actually and edits the printing data until it receives a device use end command. The CPU11 stores a device operation information indicating the usage of paper and that of tonor to be consumed by printing of image in the region 15b of the EEPROM15 for each user on the basis of the identification code or updates the device operation information already stored in the region 15b. |
