PURPOSE:To make electric double decomposition at a low discharge quantity and to produce NaOH and HCl by alternately partitioning an electrolytic cell with cation exchange membranes and anion exchange membranes and successively putting solns. of NaCl, NaOH, acid or base, and HCl into the respective chambers. CONSTITUTION:The electrolytic cell is alternately partitioned with the cation exchange membranes 5 and the anion exchange membranes 6 and is formed to many chambers in order of the chamber 1, chamber 2, chamber 3, and chamber 4. The NaCl soln. is put into this chamber 1, the NaOH soln. into the chamber 2, the water added with an acid or base of >=2 valency into the chamber 3, and the HCl into the chamber 4. This electrolytic cell is energized with the 1st chamber 1 as an anode chamber and the last chamber 1 as a cathode chamber. The respective membranes 5, 6 mentioned above respectively allow the selective transmission of ions and cause the double decomposition reaction by respectively moving Na<+> or H<+> and OH<-> or Cl<->. Gaseous Cl2 is generated from the anode chambers and gaseous H2 from the cathode chambers in this way and the discharge quantity is suppressed to form NaOH in the chamber 2 and HCl in the chamber 4. |
