PURPOSE:To suppress phase separation and to improve the repeating characteristic of recording and erasure by constituting a recording membrane of a mixture consisting of an optically active substance and a dielectric forming no solid solution along with said substance and dispersing the dielectric in the optically active substance. CONSTITUTION:After an optically active substance 3 and a dielectric 4 are simultaneously deposited on a substrate 1 to prepare a membrane, the membrane is heat-treated to generate the phase separation of the optically active substance and the dielectric to form a recording membrane 2. Or, the optically active substance and the dielectric 4 are alternately deposited on the substrate 1 to prepare a multilayer membrane which is, in turn, heat-treated to disperse the dielectric 4 in the optically active substance to form the recording membrane 2. Further, the optically active substance 3 and the dielectric 4 are simultaneously deposited on the substrate 1 while the substrate 1 is heated to be subjected to phase separation on the substrate 1 to obtain the recording membrane 2. The ratio of the optically active substance occupying in the recording membrane is pref. 20 - 80 vol.% and the amount of the dielectric of good signal quality is 30 - 60 vol.%. |
