Terminal equipment for an optical system for telephone and data channel distribution. Its object is to allow distribution of voice and data signals between a telephone exchange and the subscriber networks avoiding the use of regenerators. It features an exchange digital optical terminal 2 for control and monitoring of the system which is connected via a passive network formed by a tree of passive optical dividers 4 to a plurality of subscriber digital optical terminals 6 to which a subscriber 9 is connected and to a plurality of building digital optical terminals 7 to which various subscribers 9, 10 and 11 are connected, all in order that the final stretches of optical fibre are shared exclusively by one or a few users, whereas the rest of the stretches of optical fibre 5 are shared by a large number of users, allowing sending and receiving with the maximum degree of sharing of the network resources, and allowing wideband services to be connected. <IMAGE>
